YouTube chapters generator: timestamps from what you say

Chapters help viewers jump to the part they want and help YouTube understand your video. Writing them by hand means rewatching the whole thing. VDOAPP's AI listens for you, finds where the topic changes and writes the timestamp list.

How to make chapters

  1. Finish your edit — chapters are timed to the timeline, so make your cuts first.
  2. Open the AI tab → AI chapters and press Find chapters. The words are transcribed on your device (if you've already used Edit by transcript, that's reused).
  3. Check the list. Each line is a timestamp and a name, starting at 0:00. The chapters also appear as yellow markers on the timeline, so you can scrub to each one.
  4. Rename any chapter in the box and press Update markers from the text.
  5. Copy the list and paste it into your YouTube description.

How it works

  • Topic changes — it compares the words used before and after each sentence; where the vocabulary shifts, a new topic has probably started. Pauses and cuts between clips count too.
  • Sensible lengths — about one chapter per minute and a quarter, never shorter than 10 seconds.
  • Names from your words — each chapter is named from the words most typical of it (and rarer elsewhere). Short openings are called “Intro”.
  • YouTube-ready — the first chapter is at 0:00 and there are at least three, as YouTube requires.
  • Private — everything runs in your browser.

Tips

  • Edit the names. The AI picks key words; a human title like “Choosing a lens” reads better than “Lens & aperture”.
  • Say your topics out loud — “Next, let's talk about lighting” gives the AI (and your viewers) a clear signpost.
  • Keep markers as a navigation aid while you edit; they never appear in the exported video.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need speech?

Yes — chapters are found from what's said. For music or B-roll videos, add markers by hand (M) and name them in the Canvas tab.

How long must the video be?

At least 30 seconds, because YouTube needs three chapters of 10 seconds or more.

Which languages work?

Any language the captions support. Chapter names come from your own words, so they're in the language you speak.
