Edit faster: right-click menus, shortcuts and video track 2

Most of editing time goes on small repeated actions โ€” split, copy, move, nudge, align. VDOAPP now works the way desktop editors do: everything you can do to a clip or layer is one right-click away, the common actions have keyboard shortcuts, B-roll goes on its own track, and things snap where they belong.

In short: right-click (or press and hold on a phone) on anything for its options; learn S, M, Space, Ctrl+C/V/D and Delete; put B-roll on video track 2; keep ๐Ÿงฒ on so cuts snap; turn on # to align titles.

Right-click โ€” or press and hold on a touch screen โ€” and you get the options that make sense for what's under the pointer:

Copy, paste and looks

Copied clips paste after the clip under the playhead; copied texts, stickers and overlays paste at the playhead, keeping their style, animation and motion keyframes. To give several clips the same grade, right-click the one you like โ†’ Look โ†’ Copy look, then right-click the others โ†’ Paste look (or Paste look on all clips). The look includes the filter, every adjustment, the LUT and the effect.

Video track 2 for B-roll

B-roll โ€” shots of what someone is talking about โ€” is the oldest trick for making talking videos watchable. The row marked V2 on the timeline is a second video track that plays on top of the main one:

  1. Add B-roll: right-click the timeline โ†’ Add video to track 2โ€ฆ. It's placed at the playhead and fills the frame.
  2. Or lift a clip: right-click a main-track clip โ†’ Move to video track 2. The main track closes up and the clip plays over what follows.
  3. Trim it by dragging its ends; drag the middle to move it.
  4. Make it a picture-in-picture instead by resizing it in the preview, or send it back with Move to the main track.

The main track's sound keeps playing under track 2, so the speaker's voice carries over the B-roll โ€” the classic documentary edit. Overlapping clips on track 2 stack into extra lanes automatically.

The magnetic timeline

With the magnet (๐Ÿงฒ) on, everything you drag โ€” layer edges, the playhead โ€” snaps to cuts between clips, markers, music beats, other layers and a faint time grid that follows the zoom level. A cyan line shows what it snapped to. The main track is always gap-free: deleting or moving a clip closes the space, like a magnetic timeline in desktop software. Turn the magnet off for free positioning.

Grid and alignment guides

The # button shows a rule-of-thirds grid and a safe-area frame over the preview. While you drag a text, sticker or overlay, it snaps to the centre, the thirds and the safe margins, with pink guide lines showing the snap. None of this appears in the exported video.

Tip: titles look most balanced centred or on a third; keep anything important inside the safe frame so phone interfaces don't cover it.

A fast editing routine

  1. Drop in your clips; press Space to watch, S to split bad moments out, Delete to remove them.
  2. Right-click talking clips โ†’ AI โ†’ Remove background noise; then Even out volume in the Audio tab.
  3. Put B-roll on track 2 over the boring stretches.
  4. Generate captions in the Text tab; turn on # to place titles.
  5. Grade one clip, copy its look to the rest; export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open the menu on a phone or tablet?

Press and hold for about half a second on a clip, a layer or the preview. A short vibration confirms it on phones that support it.

How many video tracks can I use?

The main track plus track 2, which grows extra lanes for overlapping clips โ€” so you can stack several layers of video and pictures over the main one.

Do the guides show in my video?

No. The grid and guides are drawn over the preview only.
