How to remove silences
- Add your talking video — a vlog, lesson, podcast clip or screen recording with narration.
- Open Remove silences in the AI tab and check the three settings below.
- Press Find pauses. VDOAPP reports how many it found and how much time they add up to.
- Press Cut them out. The clips are split and the pauses removed. One undo puts them all back.
The three settings

| Keep around speech | 0.15 s | Padding left before and after each word, so breaths and word endings aren't clipped. |
Tip: background noise hides pauses. Run Remove background noise first and the silences become much easier to find.
Jump cuts without the whiplash
Removing every pause makes the head "jump" at each cut. That's accepted on YouTube, but a whole video of it is tiring. Two ways to soften it: use 🔍 Auto zoom in the AI tab to punch in on emphasised moments, so some cuts become changes of framing; and keep a longer pause (1 s or more) where you change topic — viewers need a breath too.
Frequently asked questions
Does it remove "um" and "uh"?
Only when they're separated by silence from the words around them. Filler words said as part of a sentence are speech, so they stay — cut those by hand with Split (S key).
Does it affect music or voiceovers?
It listens to the video clips' own sound and cuts the clips. Background music keeps playing over the tightened edit.
Will my captions still line up?
Yes — captions follow the cuts. For the cleanest result, remove silences first and caption afterwards.
