How to use stickers and emoji in videos

Stickers and emoji add personality, emphasis and humour in a way plain footage can't. They can also turn a clean video into visual noise. The trick is using them with purpose: to point, to react, to label or to brand. Here's how.

The short version

  • Use stickers with a job: react, point, label, emphasise or brand.
  • Show one or two at a time, and only for as long as they're relevant.
  • Keep them away from faces and the app's buttons.
  • Use quick entrance animations and time them to the moment they refer to.
  • Turn your logo into a sticker for subtle branding.

When stickers help

  • Reactions: a ๐Ÿ˜‚, ๐Ÿ˜ฑ or ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the exact moment something funny or impressive happens.
  • Pointing: an arrow or circle to highlight a detail โ€” the button to press, the bargain price, the tiny crack.
  • Labels: "NEW", "SALE", "WOW!" badges that frame what's on screen.
  • Calls to action: a "Subscribe" or "Follow" sticker near the end.
  • Hiding things: an emoji over a licence plate, a messy corner or an accidental spoiler.
  • Branding: your logo in a corner, consistently across videos.

Placement and size

  • Near, not on top of the thing it refers to. A reaction emoji beside a face reads better than one covering it.
  • Clear of the edges on vertical videos, where the app's buttons and captions sit.
  • Big enough to notice, small enough not to dominate. Reactions can be large for a moment; logos should be small and quiet.
  • Tilt slightly for a hand-placed, playful feel โ€” a few degrees of rotation is enough.

Animation

Motion makes stickers feel alive, and a quick entrance draws the eye to the right moment.

BouncePlayful, bouncyKids' content, celebrations
PulseAttention-grabbingCalls to action, "Subscribe", prices

Custom and logo stickers

Any image can become a sticker. The best results come from PNG files with a transparent background, so only the shape shows โ€” not a white or coloured box around it.

  • Logo: a small logo in a corner on every video builds recognition. Keep it the same size and position each time.
  • Product cut-outs: a transparent image of your product can "pop" onto the screen at the right moment.
  • Custom reactions: a cut-out of your own face or a mascot makes content instantly recognisable.

Only use images you have the rights to โ€” your own creations, licensed graphics or images that allow reuse.

Step by step: stickers in VDOAPP

  1. Move the playhead to the moment the sticker should appear in the free online editor.
  2. Open the Sticker tab and pick a graphic sticker (Subscribe, Like, Heart, WOW!, Arrow, NEW and more), an emoji from six categories, or + Upload image for your own.
  3. Place it by dragging on the preview; drag the pink corner handle to resize and rotate.
  4. Choose an animation โ€” Pop in, Bounce, Pulse, Float, Spin or Shake.
  5. Time it with Show from and Until so it appears exactly when it's relevant.
  6. Layer it with To front if stickers overlap, or Duplicate to reuse the same style.

Sticker animations play during playback and export, and hold still while you edit so they're easy to position.

Common mistakes

  • Sticker overload โ€” five emoji at once means none of them land.
  • Covering faces or the thing you want people to see.
  • Leaving them on too long โ€” a reaction sticker is funny for a second, not for ten.
  • Off-brand styles โ€” cartoon stickers can undermine a serious or premium message.
