How to record a voiceover in 4 steps
- Edit your video first. Arrange and trim your clips so the timing is final.
- Place the playhead and press 🎙 Record. Allow microphone access when your browser asks. After a 3-2-1 countdown the video plays so you can narrate along.
- Stop when you're done. Press the button again, or let it stop at the end. Your recording appears on the timeline with a waveform.
- Adjust and export. Move its start time, change its volume, record more takes if needed, then export.

Tips for clear narration
- Record in a small, soft room — curtains, carpet and clothes absorb echo.
- Keep the mic close, slightly off to one side to avoid popping sounds.
- Write a short script and read it aloud once before recording.
- Record in sections if it's easier; each take is its own voiceover you can position.

Is my recording uploaded?
No. Your voice is recorded and kept in your browser on your device, then mixed into your exported video.
Why doesn't the recorder ask for my microphone?
Microphone access needs a secure connection (vdoapp.com always uses one) and your permission. If it doesn't appear, check that the microphone isn't blocked in your browser's site settings.
Can I hear the video while recording?
Yes. Untick Mute video while recording and wear headphones so the video's sound doesn't leak into your microphone.
Can I move the voiceover after recording?
Yes. Select it and use Starts at to move it, or delete it and record again.
What microphone should I use?
Any microphone your device recognises works — built-in, headset, clip-on or USB. Placement matters more than price: keep it about a hand's width from your mouth.
